Anne's Journey

What would you do if you were BRAVE?

I was asked that question in October of 1998. At the time, I was working 70 hours a week in my sales and management job, exhausted from weekly trips across the country and living a very crazed life on a treadmill of 'doing' going 100 miles an hour. I was trying to be a super mom, super wife, super employee, super friend, and community volunteer. Essentially, I was trying to be a Wonder Woman! The truth was I was exhausted and very unhappy. What I really wanted to do was to quit my job. I didn't think that would be possible.

The thought of quitting brought both excitement and lots of fear. After almost 21 years in corporate and having built a lifestyle around my six-figure income, I didn't think I could take that bold step. Besides, I didn't really know what I would do. My identity was defined by my job title. But the seed had been planted, and I began to fantasize about what my life could be like if I walked away from the "golden handcuffs." Eight months later, I decided to take a leap of faith, and on July 2, 1999, I declared my independence in search of a life of greater meaning and passion.

Today, I am the founder and owner of On Purpose LIFE! The journey leading to my own business has involved much exploration. It's been like going to a smorgasbord and tasting all different kinds of foods. I began teaching Stephen Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to small groups. I felt I needed more training since my background had been in sales and management. I learned about a man from Canada who was doing transformational work in corporations. He was teaching about inspired leadership and helping corporations truly value each of their employees for their gifts and talents. That struck a chord in me as I longed to work in such an environment during those 21 years. Inspired by a dream of "healing the Corporate Heart", I signed on for extensive training with Dr. Lance Secretan. The work involved intense work with companies and actually took me away from my family for longer periods of time than my previous position. It was time to go back to the feast and try something else.

Coaching was my next stop. On September 21, 2001, with fear still coursing through me, I boarded a plane for Dallas to learn to be a coach. The previous event, two weeks prior - 9/11, only strengthened my desire to help people live a life of joy, purpose, and meaning. How many people hated their jobs in those Twin Towers? I wanted to coach people to live a life they loved. I trained with an International Coaching Federation-accredited school, Coach for Life. In 2002, I became a Certified Life Coach. This work felt like my calling and brought great satisfaction. I continue to coach clients- both executives and individuals. Since that training, I've added more tools to my bag... WaveMaker Coaching, Human Design, Core Dynamics of Common Problems, ADHD Coaching certification, and even Unleash to Power and Date with Destiny with Tony Robbins. My learning never stops...

The joy and deep peace that once seemed so elusive is now a way of being. While it has been a long journey, I have found a life of greater meaning and passion and have bravely stepped into my life purpose.
